Community Service

As Methodists I am sure that most of us are familiar with the words of John Wesley to “Do all the good you can, By all the means you can,In all the ways you can, In all the places you can, At all the times you can, To all the people you can, As long as ever you can.” These words of course describe what becomes for many 'social action' and  some of our church members have, during these challenging times,  decided to volunteer at our local Vaccination Centre 'doing all the good they can'. Below is a piece written by Jo describing her first day. And we wish all our church family and other volunteers well and thank them for their service to the local community.

Today I completed my first session as a volunteer at Stithians Mass vaccination centre. My shift was from 12 noon to 4pm and I was a meet and greet marshall at the entrance to the vaccine tent. It was a lovely job as I was able to chat to people as they entered, who were all happy as it was finally their turn to have the jab. Although it was cold, it was dry and the sun shone some of the time. The Golden Lion pub at Stithians Lake provided food for the NHS staff and the volunteers. A cup of mushroom soup and warm bread was very welcome and a very king gesture. They have a go funding page if anyone would like to donoate

The centre is very well run and everything went smoothly. There were plenty of volunteers who cheerfully marshalled traffic, welcomed people and made sure everyone knew where they were going.

I am looking forward to my next stint in a week's time.
