A United Service for Harvest Festival

A United Service for Harvest Festival

Today we at FMC joined our friends at KCM Parish Church for a joint Harvest Festival. The service began with the hymn of praise, 'Come, ye thankful people, come,' and this set the theme for our ecumenical service.

Introduced by Canon Geoffrey Bennett, the choir of KCM sang Psalm 65, 'you care for land and water it; you enrich it abundantly,' and following this there was a presentation of symbolic gifts by members of both congregations including seeds, soil, water, bread and wine. The Old Testament reading was taken from Deuteronomy 26: 1-11 and the New Testament reading came from Matthew 6: 25-33.

The sermon was delivered by Revd. Jonathan Froggatt and focused on our 'remembering to be thankful for the food that sustains us' and that 'our care of creation is equally important; considering where our food comes from and how it is produced being of real relevance.'

Canon Geoffrey Bennett re-dedicated the organ of KCM which has had some work carried out through the last week and the service closed with a blessing and the organist playing Rhapsody no 3 in C sharp major (Herbert Howells).

If you would like to join us for our service next week  it begins at 10.30 and is led by Miss Jean Whetham.
